Message from the Chief

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Winkler Police Service Web site. Our intent is to provide an overview of our agency as well as specific information to help individuals make informed safety decisions.

The City of Winkler is situated in south central Manitoba, just 19 kilometers north of the U.S. border. We serve Winkler's population of 12,660 people with a complement of 19 police officers, 4 clerical staff, and a victim services volunteer. Winkler is known as the industrial and shopping centre of the region, as well as for the diversity of agriculture on the rich farmland surrounding the city. This rapidly growing community was born in 1906 when it was incorporated as a Village, and officially achieved City status on April 7, 2002.

As you explore the site, you will find information on department organization, employment opportunities, special programs, crime statistics, announcements and an interesting summary of our history. We have also provided links to excellent sites for both adults and children relating to safety and drug education. These are only a few of the resources currently available on this site, and I encourage you to look around and I invite suggestions and comments.

The Winkler Police Service encourages members of our community to become involved in our efforts to prevent crime and to solve issues or problems of concern. Without the commitment and partnership of our citizens, we would be ineffective in addressing our public safety concerns. The Winkler Police Service is committed to a high level of community service that will provide our citizens with a safe environment in which to live and work.

Thank you for your continued support of the Winkler Police Service.

Rick Hiebert
Chief of Police
